Dear parents,

I have had a wicked cold and cough the last few days, so this letter will be short, but hopefully chuck full of information. If I haven't answered your phone call or e-mail in a timely fashion, please be patient.I will get to it eventually.

Ken Schlosser wonders if you are looking for a unique mother's present for her special day on Sunday. How about cleaning out a closet, basement or attic of unneeded clothing that you could donate to St. Vincent de Paul's Spring Clothing Drive on May 31st and June 1st.There will be a mid-size truck on the church premises located near the playground before and after all masses. All gently used clothing items packaged in plastic bags from children to adult sizes will be accepted.Small appliances and household items that are in working order would also be appreciated. For larger items, please call 882-3360 x4 during business hours to schedule a pick-up at your home.

We are desperately in need of parents to volunteer at lunches from 10:30 – 12:30 (or any part of that time). There is a volunteer sign up sheet for this in the main hall of the school, next to the bulletin board, by the main office. Please help us out if you can.

Congratulations to:

  • Mary Elizabeth Russell, class of '04, who has earned the Canisius College Presidential Scholarship, a full ride, to begin next year.Mary Elizabeth has also earned several other scholarships, but will attend Canisius.
  • Philip Russell and Teresa Koprucki, who saw Pope Benedict at Yankee Stadium recently.
  • Joey Georges, Ben Miller and Max Roehmholdt, (class of 07), who earned a spot on Canisius Honor Roll. For some reason, I did not get the full list from Canisius, that I usually publish in our school's foyer.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 1, 2008, at 5:00 p.m., in the school parking lot and gym.We will hold our annual Sports Banquet, featuring John Murphy, the Voice of the Bills and Sports Director of WIVB. All will enjoy a picnic dinner, and there will be the presentation of sports awards and gifts to our school's athletes. It promises to be a fun-filled evening. The registration form is included in this week's family folder and the deadline is May 22nd.Come and help us celebrate the gift of our talented athletes!

Mrs. Eastmer and Ackerman send this reminder to all parents of eighth graders. All children and parents attending the class trip to Playdium on May 28 need a passport or photo identification and a birth certificate. These need to be collected by Mrs. Eastmer ahead of time and will be returned to you immediately after the trip.Students may dress comfortably but in a manner befitting a Catholic school student.Jeans are permissible, but no skimpy tops for girls or inappropriate logos on boys' or girls' shirts. There are to be no short shorts. The price of the adult lunch has been changed to $15 by the Playdium management.

The Keys and Sword Gala is rapidly approaching. We will be gathering at the Millennium Hotel, on Walden, on Friday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m.There will be no ticket sales at the door the night of the event; you must purchase tickets prior to the event. Each ticket purchased entitles the purchaser to a full sit down dinner on the 16th.

Every school family is required to sell five tickets. If you do not sell these tickets, the price of five tickets will be added to your tuition bill.

On May 15, after the school play, in the gym, we will pull the winner of one year's free tuition at Ss. Peter & Paul School, (a $2050 value). For every ticket sold over five tickets, you will be entered once for each ticket into the drawing. For example, if you sell seven tickets, you will have two chances to win in the bucket. This drawing probably has the best odds in the entire sweepstakes. You have seven days left to get a chance in the bucket.Good luck!

Among the items offered at the auction on May 16th are:

  • Summer Camp – free tuition for 2008 for one full time camper
  • A "Dress Down Day" foryour child's class
  • Lunch with Mrs. Maines for your child and a guest
  • Lunch with your child's teacher and your child
  • Front row seats at the kindergarten graduation
  • 2008 Volleyball Camp tuition for one student
  • A one week stay at a five bedroom condo in Florida
  • And there's more…

The total cash prizes are $12,000; many will go home with a big grin on their faces…one of these grins could be yours…you never know!

Sincerely,

Marianne Maines
